Weather Reading Passages | Paper and Digital

Learn everything there is to know about weather through these simple reading passages that require no more prepping than simply printing the pages or posting a link to them. These passages were written to replace the need for textbooks whether you are teaching in person or online.

This resource is part of our Weather Unit, but we have better suggestions for Alberta teachers below.

This easy-to-use resource includes:

• weather topics you can use throughout your unit in place of textbooks.
• types of clouds, wind and wind speed, types of precipitation, moisture, different weather phenomena, weather systems, climate and climate change, weather forecasting, weather instruments, clothing and fabric, and air movement.
• ten reading passages designed for an approximate Grade Five reading level (though we understand that not all students read at the exact level).
• simple suggestions to use the reading passages in your classroom.
• paper and digital versions of each text.
• a digital version of all the student pages that use Google Slides. You must download the PDF file and use the access link in the file to get your digital copy.
