Learn about Alberta's five numbered treaties through a variety of activities that only take moments to prep. Students will learn about the definition and process of treaties in Canada, the specific treaties in Alberta and will create maps of the numbered treaties, while everything teachers need is included.     • the five numbered treaties in Alberta: Treaty 4, Treaty 6, Treaty 7, Treaty 8, Treaty 10.
    • the numbered treaties in Canada. An explanation that other treaties exist (such as the ones created before confederation and unceded territories), but the focus of this resource is on the numbered treaties.
    • background information for the teacher including: The Royal Proclamation of 1763, the treaty process and Indian Agents.
    • the general purpose of treaties in Canada.
    • activity about treaty members.
    • decision making and consensus.
    • a hands-on activity to create a treaty.
    • reasons why some treaties are disputed.
    • simple quizzes and assessment activities to see what students have learned about the treaties in Alberta.
    • modifications to help you differentiate without spending more of your time.
    • digital versions of most of the pages to help support your students or reduce printing. To access the digital version, download the PDF and use the link inside that file.
    • loose text in the digital version which can be read by your assistive technology. This is especially helpful since some of the text may be beyond the Grade 3 reading level (especially at the beginning of the school year).
